With the research from The Girls’ Project completed, Stopping Violence Services Nelson (SVSN) and Dr Donna Swift, principal researcher for the project, are now offering trainings and presentations focusing on young women’s violence and anti-social behaviour.

What’s up with Girls training workshop

What’s up with Girls focuses issues contributing to girls’ violence and anti-social behaviour that were identified in The Girls’ Project. It highlights windows of opportunity where differences can be made and introduces strategies for prevention. This training is designed to help both management and staff to obtain a solid understanding to help them initiate operational or procedural changes within their organisation, school or service so that girls can better be served.

This 6-hour programme involves presentations and interactive exercises. Resource handouts and a certificate for full attendance are provided.  (Please note, Dr Swift’s ‘Sugar and Spice’ presentation, see Other News, provides a useful background to this material and is highly recommended.) 

Working with Girls training workshop

Working with Girls explores the challenges teenage girls can present, the dynamics that so often perpetuate these difficulties, and how we work effectively, or not so effectively, in these situations.  Designed for individuals who are currently employed or seeking employment working with girls. This training will offer strategies for intervention, as well as contribute to personal confidence and comfort when working with challenging girls. ‘What’s up with Girls’ is a prerequisite to this training.

This 6-hour programme involves presentations, practical exercises and reflective discussions.  Resource handouts and a certificate for full attendance are provided.
